Wenda K. Bauchspies

Associate Professor

(PhD, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1998) is a sociologist who specializes in studying science, technology, and gender in West Africa from a cultural perspective. Her research interests include science education, women and schooling; everyday technologies in a mid-sized West African city; and the adoption of new varieties of rice in West Africa. She has been living, working and traveling in Francophone West Africa since the early 1990s. Her work has appeared in: Social Epistemology, Science as Culture, Cultural Dynamics, Subjectivity, Foundations of Science, and Society and Knowledge. She is the co-author of Science, Technology and Society: A Sociological Approach, published by Blackwell Publishing in 2005. Dr. Bauchspies teaches courses on the sociology of science; science, technology and development; gender and technology; and women and development.
