Wenda K. Bauchspies

Assistant Professor

(PhD, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1998) is a sociologist who specializes in studying science, technology, and gender in West Africa from a cultural perspective. Her research interests include science education, women and schooling; everyday technologies in a mid-sized West African city; and the adoption of new varieties of rice in West Africa. Her work has appeared in: Social Epistemology, Science as Culture, Cultural Dynamics, Critical Science and Education, Foundations of Science, and Society and Knowledge. She is the co-author of Science, Technology and Society: A Sociological Approach, published by Blackwell Publishing in 2005. Dr. Bauchspies teaches courses on the sociology of science; science, technology and development; race, gender and science; and technology and culture.
