Letter from the Director of Undergraduate Studies

Every technological advance brings risks as well as rewards, problems as well as solutions. The spread of advanced technologies in the modern era has generated economic, social, and political change on a global scale unimaginable in an earlier age. The School of History, Technology, and Society (HTS) is composed of scholars who share a teaching and research focus on historical and sociological studies of technology and science. We train leaders able to comprehend and manage the challenging issues associated with technological and scientific advance in the 21st century both in the United States and around the world.

HTS courses feature small class sizes and one-on-one attention, fostering the verbal, research, and writing skills prized by employers and graduate schools. The flexibility of the HTS curriculum allows students to pursue coursework in other fields, giving our graduates a uniquely rigorous and well-rounded education in the sciences and arts. In addition, HTS students have ample opportunity to supplement their training with internships, campus activism, and travel and study abroad. It is no surprise, then, that our students are leaders on campus and that after graduation they succeed in a wide range of professions, including the law, government, journalism, business, medicine, advertising, library and archives management, teaching, and publishing. If you are looking for an academic program that provides all the benefits of a traditional liberal arts education plus the competitive edge of a technologically and globally focused learning experience, we invite you to join Georgia Tech’s School of History, Technology, and Society.
